Japanese Wooden Abacus

A vintage Japanese soroban (traditional abacus) with a warm, aged wood patina. Unlike the broader category of abacus counting frames, the soroban represents the Japanese form, characterized by its minimal structure and precise bead configuration.

Hand-carved kanji characters appear on the reverse panel, likely referencing a merchant or shop name, adding a layer of history and individuality to the piece.

Originally used for calculation and commerce, it now reads as a sculptural object - styled on a console, desk, or layered into a still life arrangement.

Condition: great vintage condition. Slight marks and scuffs consistent with age.
