A vintage French hammer with a curved wooden handle and forged steel head, marked “Outil Reffus.” The phrase was often used in French workshops to indicate a tool made by hand but not intended for factory sale, a worker’s own piece forged with the same care as production tools.

Found in Avignon, this hammer carries a quiet honesty in its form and wear. The metal is darkened from decades of use, and the handle is smoothed where hands once rested. It is a simple, functional object that now feels sculptural and enduring.
